Leipzig Airport is 20km from the centre of Leipzig via the A14 and B2 roads and the trip takes around 15min depending on the time of day.

Leipzig is the largest town in Saxony in the former East Germany. Leipzig is steeped in history with impressive architecture, galleries and museums. Take a stroll through the vibrant and interesting old town and stop off at the Bach Museum and admire Leipzig town hall which, formerly a medieval castle.

Saxony is a magical part of Germany and there is a wealth of great road trip opportunities around Leipzig including the Leipzig New Lake District as well as routes to explore Saxony’s castles and heathland.

With its great road network, hiring a car in Germany is a great way to see the country and Leipzig is no exception. Thanks to its position next to the A9, A14 and A38 motorways, Leipzig is well connected to the national motorway network. While public transport in the city is good, to explore the region and plan your own timetable, a rental car gives you the freedom to enjoy the open road at your own pace.

As in the rest of Europe, you will be driving on the right-hand side of the road. Be aware that in Leipzig itself, most of the city area is within a low emission zone. Here, only vehicles with a green sticker (emissions category 4) can use public roads. There are signposts showing where the low emission zones begin and end.
